The artwork depicts a composition of arabesques, or geometric and floral motifs, cut from paper. Prisse d'Avennes was a French artist, engineer, and archaeologist. He is best known for his studies of Islamic architecture and art. Arabesques; applications de découpures en papier (fin du XVIIIe. siècle) is one of Prisse d'Avennes' many works that illustrate his interest in Islamic art.
