Artwork designed and digitally remastered by Sarasvati Designs. William Morris registered the “Bird” pattern in 1878 for the drawing room walls of Kelmscott House in Hammersmith, London. Later produced at Merton Abbey after 1881 in three colorways, Morris described the heavy, doublecloth fabric as “woven wool tapestry.” Used as a wall covering, it embodied his vision of richly patterned, nature-inspired decor—an enduring hallmark of the Arts & Crafts movement.
