Blue Butterflies and Pomegranate is one of Merian's most famous works. It depicts a pomegranate branch with two Morpho menelaus butterflies, a species native to South America. Merian was one of the first artists to use a microscope to study plants and insects, which allowed her to capture their intricate details with remarkable accuracy.
