Artwork designed and digitally remastered by Sarasvati Designs. “Book Illustrations” (“Boekillustraties”) by Hashiguchi Goyō is a collection of woodblock prints that were originally created as illustrations for a book. The prints depict a variety of scenes, including landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. Goyō's prints are known for their delicate brushwork, vibrant colors, and realistic depictions of Japanese life and culture. Hashiguchi Goyō (Japanese, 1881-1921) was a leading figure in the shin-hanga movement, a revival of ukiyo-e woodblock printing in the early 20th century. Goyō was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, and studied painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. After graduating in 1905, he began working as a book illustrator. In 1911, he designed a poster for the Mitsukoshi department store that was widely praised for its beauty and originality.
