The Peri originates from Leon Bakst’s visionary design work for the Ballets Russes in 1911. Commissioned for the ballet “La Péri,” the illustration reflects Bakst’s mastery of flowing lines, ornate detailing, and a sense of dreamlike movement. Though the production was ultimately cancelled, his design endures as one of his most admired works—an elegant synthesis of Persian-inspired ornament, theatrical imagination, and refined artistry. The piece is often noted for its delicate figure, rhythmic contours, and the subtle narrative behind its creation, including the intended casting of Natacha Trouhanova.
